The Government of Bangladesh (GoB) has decided to improve road connectivity by constructing Mahadev, Ganeshwari, and Someshwari Bridge-3 and Nitai Bridge on missing links of the Sunamganj-Netrokona-Mymensingh-Sherpur-Jamalpur (Dhanua Kamalpur) (Z-2834) road, and Someshwari Bridge-2 adjacent to the old, narrow, damaged Someshwari Bridge on the Shyamganj-Jaria-Birisiri-Durgapur (Z-3704) road, implemented jointly with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB). The Z-2834 road, a 172.00 km strategic border route, is vital for cross-district mobility and trade. While a 128 km section between Mahishkhola (Netrokona) and Dhanua Kamalpur (Jamalpur) is complete, four links remain disconnected at the 9th, 21st, 35th, and 47th km due to river crossings (Mahadev, Ganeshwari, Someshwari, Nitai), limiting transport and economic integration. The missing bridges will restore connectivity, linking Kalmakanda and Durgapur Upazilas (Netrokona) with Haluaghat and Dhobaura Upazilas (Mymensingh). GoB has allocated funds to engage an NGO for Land Acquisition (LA) and RAP implementation. Project Components: i. Two Extradosed Bridges (1,320 m) and three Arch Bridges (568 m) ii. 2,922.8 m Viaduct/Elevated Road iii. Approach Road, 6.048 km iv. Service Road, 1.77 km v. Land Acquisition, Resettlement and Compensation. The project road section spans 10.85 km across Netrokona and Mymensingh districts. Residential, commercial, and community establishments will require relocation. Agricultural land losers and indirectly affected households will face income loss from acquisition of about 41.92 hectares of land. RHD estimates 335 households and 122 business units requiring relocation. Compensation will be paid to Project Affected Persons (PAPs) through the NGO, per the approved RAP.
